3 things that are stopping us or slowing us down from having the life of our dreams
Lately, I have been thinking a lot about my relationship with time. On the weekends the days seem to go by so fast! Then, BAM! Here we are again on Sunday evening getting ready to start the workweek and school week. Then, Mondays seem to drag on like the workday will never end.
BUT, we have the same amount of time on Saturday that we do on Monday.
Why does time seem to stand still in some situations and fly by in others?
Think about it. When we are on vacation, we lose track of the days and time.
Anyone else feel like they have to be brought back to “reality” after Christmas vacation? I literally have to check the calendar on my computer multiple times to remember what the date is…no matter how many days I take off.
I struggle with estimating how long something will take. I (almost) always underestimate the time it will take to do a chore, or complete a task, or the time it takes me to get ready to go somewhere.
OR I think I have plenty of time to finish that project at work, and then all of a sudden I only have a few days or a couple of hours to complete it.
What’s really interesting about the work project is, the project always gets done. Whether I have 3 weeks or 3 days to complete it. Even if I have to drop other things to complete a project where someone else is depending on me to complete it, I get it done.
Can anyone relate to these things?
Anyone tired of feeling stressed because there is not enough time or feeling anxious with all of the balls they have in the air and feeling like you may drop one at any moment?
Anyone else want to start a new hobby, read more books, train for a 5k or whatever it is, and you feel like you don’t have enough time?
I listen to a lot of podcasts and professionals in the personal development space, and I have heard a few of them talk about the fact that we all have the same amount of time in the day – 24 hours.
So why is it some of us can create and do and achieve so much in that amount of time, and others can’t?
I think there are three things happening here:
- We spend a lot of time thinking about doing something. We, as we say in the South, “are fixin’ to get ready” to do the thing.
- We spend a lot of time on the wrong things. Or maybe a better way to put it is we are spending time on things that don’t always have to be our top priority.
- We are not optimizing our time.
If you read my blog earlier this year, you will remember that my word for 2023 was Optimize. I want to Optimize my time spent on things that are important to me, and with the people in my life who mean so much to me so that I can truly enjoy life.
To be honest…That is REALLY hard!
In this series, we are going to break down tips and tricks that I have either tried, am currently trying or want to try to optimize my time in work, life and personal relationships. This is definitely a place where I am a work in progress and know I don’t have all the answers, but I hope we can go on this journey and learn and grow together.
