My Story continued

I am a Health Coach

I have a tendency to get really excited about something and then my “critter” brain, the part of my brain that wants to keep me safe and wants me to stay in my comfort zone, starts pulling me back to “reality” and even puts fear in my mind that I can’t do it.

Thoughts like: It’s too hard.  How will you support your family and their goals? Who are you to have your own business?  Do you really think you know enough?

My husband has been a big supporter through this whole messy part of my journey.  I remember coming into the living room one day and saying, “I think I want to be a Health Coach.”  He replied, “Go for it.”  Then I explained that I wanted to get certified first and that might cost a bit of money…And he lovingly said, “We’ll figure it out.  We always do.”

Right then, I started researching Health Coaching programs.  Although I had a ton of experience and knowledge about Health and Wellness, I felt that a certification program would be the best option for me to learn and grow.  There are a lot of great certification programs and schools out there.  I researched them all, attended webinars and Q&A sessions to learn more about each program, and I kept coming back to the Health Coach Institute (HCI).

I really liked their structure, the plan and their holistic approach to Health and Life Coaching.

In March 2022, I started the journey into becoming a Health & Life Coach.  And, what a journey it has been!  The program starts with a deep dive into nutrition and mindset.  We learned about not only how our bodies react to certain nutrients, but also how our mindset and stress levels play a huge role in our overall health and well-being.

We learned about diet culture, and it’s not so much – this diet is better than that diet –  OR – you should cut this or that from your diet – but more about the foods that feel nourishing to your body and soul.  The foods that work best for your body, not the latest thing they are trying to sell to you.

We then learned coaching techniques and sequences, and then the best part was practicing what we learned in a series of “skills labs” with a partner.  I met someone who will be my lifelong friend through these skills labs, and learned so much about coaching.

With this work, I have experienced true transformation in my own health journey.

I was hesitant to even use the word “Transformation” as it was suggested by HCI. I felt that word was too BIG, too much to promise, who am I to say that my clients can experience a “transformation?”

BUT I have seen it first hand.  My clients have come back to themselves.  They are connecting with their truth.  They are doing things not because they think they should be, or that they have to, but because they want to.  They are setting boundaries and finding their way back to loving themselves.

I am so honored to have been witness to these Transformations.  I believe that we should all feel a sense of peace and authenticity in our daily lives.

I heard an amazing quote from one of my teachers, Mel Robbins.  She said, “I’m myself, no matter where I am.”

By the way, I don’t actually know Mel but I listen to her podcast regularly and she inspires me is so many ways.  Check out her podcast if you want some real talk about personal growth and development.

My truth is, I want to be myself no matter where I am, and I want my clients to be that as well.

We are meant to be our true selves on this beautiful, crazy, frustrating, wonderful, exciting, daunting journey.

I founded FREED Coaching Co because I want to support women on their health journey.  My mission is to empower women to connect back to themselves and find their spark again.

She’s in there.

We just have to slow down, prioritize ourselves and listen.

Take the first step toward yourself today.
