Does anyone else have a phrase like this that keeps coming up in their head?
Nike has their slogan, “Just do it.”
Mine is, “Just start.”
Hi, I’m Jen Henry. I am a wife, mom of 3 amazing children, lover of the outdoors and a Health and Life Coach. I am venturing into the blogging space as a way to share my story as well as sharing insights with women on ways to reconnecting back to themselves.
Many of us do all of the things that are expected of us. We go to college, we start our career, we meet the guy, we get married, have kids, and not only succeed in our careers but also succeed at managing our family’s lives. We have done all of the things we “should” do. We make our schedules each day and week based on the “have to’s” and we do so while pushing aside our needs, our wants and our desires in order to take care of everyone else.
Of course, that’s not all of us. I have such respect and admiration for women who have set really good boundaries for themselves. They are taking risks and stepping out of their comfort zones to build a life of their dreams. They are creating experiences where their needs are met, along with living and loving life with those close to them.
I hope, no, I plan to be one of them some day. And that is what this blog and journey are all about.
So, the phrase this year is, “Just start.”
I don’t know why it’s so hard to start something new? There is a Cross fit gym near my home that has a sign outside it that says, “It’s the start that’s stopping you.”
What do you dream about? What is something that you have always wanted to do or that you have even recently had a ping to try? Is it Cross Fit? Is it starting a business on Etsy? Is it learning a new language?
If you’re like me, you have a lot of ideas and dreams. I think of cool things to do all the time. Ideas like: I should create a Vision board. I want to be in a position to donate to causes I believe in regularly. I would love to sign-up for yoga at a local studio. I really want to learn American sign language.
So many ideas, so many dreams and then I don’t do them. Why is it so hard to start something?
There are many things that might be holding us back, and here and now I am declaring that you can do it!! There is no time like the present!
And, what will happen if you don’t do the thing?
When you look back a year from now, how do you want to feel? Proud because you tried? Proud because you succeeded in starting the thing? OR Disappointed because you are still thinking about it? Frustrated that you still haven’t started?
I want you to be proud! I want you to break free from the shoulds – I should be doing this. I should be making that. I should have started the thing.
And Just Start!
Not because you have to, but because you get to.
What a beautiful way to reframe our thoughts. I get to sign-up for Yoga. I get to join a gym. I get to register my business on Etsy. I get to cook home cooked meals. I get to go to my kid’s game.
I am super excited that I get to write this blog. I hope that you will visit again as I post messages like this on a weekly basis.
Thank you for reading!
Jen
